When developing websites, the hardest and most frustrating part for me is finding a theme that works. I can almost never find a theme that works out of the box.

This week I’ll begin beta testing the standard theme.

I’m excited, and cannot wait – this is truly a privilege for me. Part of the reasons I’m excited is that @human3rror , aka John Saddington is behind it, and I trust him enough to have faith in the theme.

Hopefully this does not lead me to Wordpress Insomnia.

Question: Has any hobby led you to Insomnia or something close?

Lately I’ve been forced to rely on my laptop a lot. A/V glitches during presentations, videos freezing and sluggishness led me on a hunt for a new laptop. Yesterday I went out to get a Mac. But I succumbed to a PC. Here’s why.

I wanted a laptop that:

Could smoothly play videos etc. on projectors for events

Could be used to take notes in class – I take notes extensively in class using Microsoft OneNote

Could run Windows, for programming purposes – Visual Studio only runs on Windows.

I was willing to compromise for a Macbook because it’s made by Apple – it should theoretically work flawlessly, and could dual boot Windows. I wouldn’t be able to use it to take notes in class, but I could compromise and go back to physical notes – Apple had me sold. Almost. I walked into an Apple store, played around with the 13″ Macbook Pro I wanted to buy, did some performance testing, and then made a decision. I couldn’t do it.

The Macbook was twice as expensive as its PC counter-parts, and did not impress me enough to warrant the price. I settled for a HP tx2 because it features:

2x the ram of the macbook

3x the Hard-Drive space

Multi-touch and a tablet surface: I can continue to take digital notes in-class

A smaller price tag compared to the Macbook pro.

Apple Tablet:

I could wait for the rumored Apple Tablet, but I needed a portable that was also powerful and could be used in a performance setting – the Apple tablet seems geared to be a secondary device. Being a student, I can’t afford to get 2 devices, especially when a convertible such as the tx2 exists.

I have a strong appreciation for all things Apple (The iPod touch I own totally pwns) and do hope to get an Apple computer someday… just not yet.

Question: Are you a Mac or a PC? What’s your #1 reason?

It rocks. Single-player as usual feels like being in a movie. No lag troubles in Multi-player yet. Everything has been amazing so far.

The line ups at stores still baffle me – apparently the line up at my local Game Stop was 250 people long at midnight and took till 2:30am to clear. There was even a line up when I went to get it at 2:30 this afternoon. I remember picking up Modern Warfare two years ago without any line-ups. Way to go Infinity Ward!

Based on their past record, I trusted Infinity Ward to know what they were doing. MW2 has definitely proven worthy. At the very least, MW2 is definitely waaaay better than it was predicted to be, atleast among the PC Gaming community.

On a side note, this kinda reminds me of trusting Jesus in a sense – because of the things he did, and the reasons to believe in him – get the parallelism?

This is a follow up on my previous post about the Waterloo Project, LooP for short. Below are a few reasons I chose to be a part of the project.

I. The Vision

The vision of the project is to “further the movement at Waterloo and accelerate the national campus ministry through evangelism & innovation”. I’m all about doing something serious for Jesus (that rhymed!), and that vision sounds ubber cool.

II. Practicality

I’m getting a chance to practically use skills I’ve been learning from my Computer Science program and apply them in creating software tools to help accelerate Campus for Christ’s impact on University campuses and the world. Some of the software tools built in the past are being used across countries and continents, as well as by other branches of Campus for Christ such as Athletes in Action and Leader Impact.

III. Personal Gain

I’m also getting a chance to be involved with ministry on the University campus, be trained and discipled, and try out full-time ministry for two months. This is sure to accelerate God’s work in my life.

Here’s something fun to try this weekend/whenever you’re bored – browser homepages from google. Granted, they’ve been out for a while, but in case you’re a late adopter like me, they’re quite fun!

The major benefit of using iGoogle as your homepage is widgets – there’s a growing library of widgets you can add to your iGoogle page like email, rss feeds, fancy clocks, a google calendar widget, etc. My favorite widget is a scripture memory tool, which progressively hides words of a verse you are trying to memorize over the week. You can even organize your widgets in multiple tabs.

iGoogle also has features themes! Recently they started adding game themes, which got my attention. They have a “Theme of the day” option which auto changes your theme daily. I’ve got “Game of the day” picked, so I get to experience a new game theme every day .

To get started, visit http://google.com/ig – Have fun!
